What does 'Proof is in the Pudding' actually mean?

Updated: Apr 3, 2019

The original phrasing for this idiom is as stated above. The idea was to suggest that until you try something out, you could not be sure of the results. However, this has been rephrased to include: 'proof in the pudding', 'proof of the pudding' and the title of this website, 'proof is in the pudding'.

Alone, this saying appears nonsensical, until we look at the etymology of 'pudding'.

When we think of puddings, usually a sweet desert comes to mind. However, the 'pudding' of old, consisted of meat, blood and various other potentially contaminated items. Therefore, the only way to discover whether the pudding was harmful was simply, to try it!

Likewise, you may have been the victim of many online scams, or people promising to deliver the 'proof' and fail miserably, but here, we will definitely prove that once you have tried our services, you will never look back!
